Christmas Baklava with Walnuts”


1/2 pound chopped pecans
1/2 pound chopped walnuts
2-3 tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 pound package phyllo dough
1-1/2 cups melted butter
2-1/2 cups honey
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Lemon peel


1) Mix the walnuts in a large bowl and mix with the ground cinnamon. Put aside.2) Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
Place 2 sheets of filo dough on the bottom of the prepared pan. Brush generously with melted butter.
3 ) Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of nut mixture on top. Repeat the layers until all the nuts, butter and filo dough are used up.4) Finally, spread about 6 layers of filo dough on top. If there is some butter left, spread it on the top layer.
5 ) Using a very sharp knife, cut through all the layers of the baklava. Cut 3-4 slices lengthwise.
6) Then make diagonal cuts to form diamonds.7) Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until golden brown and crispy, about 45 minutes.
8 ) While the baklava is baking, heat the honey in a saucepan until it is just about to boil. Add vanilla and lemon zest.
9 ) When the baklava is ready, immediately pour the honey mixture over it.
10) Allow to cool completely in the tin.😍
