Caramel Flan

 

Ingredients:

• For the Caramel:
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1/4 cup water
• For the Flan:
• 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
• 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
• 4 large eggs
• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
• 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel:
• In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
• Cook over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.
• Stop stirring and continue to cook until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
• Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round cake pan or flan mold, tilting to evenly coat the bottom. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Flan Mixture:
• Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
• In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
3. Assemble and Bake:
• Pour the flan mixture over the caramel in the prepared pan.
• Place the pan in a larger baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan pan to create a water bath.
• Carefully transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
4. Cool and Chill:
• Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.
• Once cooled, cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
5. Serve:
• To unmold, run a knife around the edges of the flan. Place a serving plate over the pan and invert it to release the flan.
• Allow the caramel to drizzle over the top.
