The unique journey of Savannah and her twins with Down syndrome

Did you know that the chances of having twins have increased dramatically in recent years? In fact, about 33 out of every 1,000 births are twins. The chances are still low when it comes to identical twins: about three or four in a thousand births are born as identical twins. That’s why it is so rare and unique.

The mother of twin children with Down syndrome silenced the criticism with a photo showing how beautiful she is
It was great joy for 23-year-old Savannah Combs to learn that she was pregnant with twins. But another surprise awaited her and her husband, Justin Ackerman: Both twins had Down syndrome. Even though some people judge and criticize her and her children for their appearance, Savannah sees them as incredibly valuable.

“There are very few of them, but they are my jewels,” she said. Savannah, from Middleburg, Florida, decided to document her post-pregnancy journey with her daughters, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, on TikTok, where they quickly gained a following. Unfortunately, some told Savannah to consider having an abortion because they didn’t. But she decided to give them a fighting chance and enjoyed all her pre-blessing pregnancy plans.

When Savannah learned that both of her daughters had Down syndrome, her husband Justin was at camp. She went to the hospital when she was 29 weeks pregnant and gave birth to identical twins on May 12, 2021. Due to their early arrival, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman had to spend several weeks in the NICU before returning home.

“It’s called mono di twins, which means they have their own pockets but share the same chest, which means they’ll be identical,” Savannah explained. “Twins are already common, and if you add Down syndrome, the rate is one in two million,” he said. But despite the unique challenges they face, Savannah insists her daughters are just like any other child. They have emotions, a beating heart, and the ability to learn and grow. Savannah believes in their potential and shares her goals and updates on TikTok.

“These children are cheerful little little ones,” she said happily. ‘They may be behind, but they will succeed. As long as they put their mind to it, they will get there. ”
