Savory Cheese and Sesame Seed Rings

 

 

Ingredients:

– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1/2 cup plain yogurt
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

1. **Prepare the Dough:**
– In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
– Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
– Stir in the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
– Add the yogurt and mix until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a little more yogurt, one tablespoon at a time.

2. **Shape the Rings:**
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
– Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
– On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
– Use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough. Then, use a smaller round cutter to cut out the center of each circle, creating ring shapes.
– Place the dough rings on the prepared baking sheet.

3. **Add the Topping:**
– Brush the tops of the dough rings with the beaten egg.
– Sprinkle sesame seeds generously over each ring.

4. **Bake the Rings:**
– Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the rings are golden brown and cooked through.

5. **Serve:**
– Allow the rings to cool slightly before serving.
