Heartwarming action: Her son grows hair to make a wig for his mother

In 2003, Melanie Shaha, living in Gilbert, Arizona, received terrible news: She had a pituitary tumor in her brain. Although benign, this tumor caused a variety of symptoms, including headaches. But perhaps the hardest thing for Melanie was losing her hair, which left her feeling exposed and vulnerable. But as Melanie’s son proves, love has a strange way of healing wounds. She grew her hair with great devotion to give her a tree that would revive her mother’s pride and hope. During Melanie’s journey to find comfort during a difficult time, a wig made from her son’s hair serves as the perfect reminder of what great love can do.

Melanie’s battle with hair loss didn’t end with the discovery of the tumor. Although she underwent three surgeries to remove tumors from her body in 2006, 2017 and 2018, she continued to experience the negative effects of hair loss. This made it difficult for Melanie to interact with others in public, causing her to feel uncomfortable and attracting unwanted attention.

As if things weren’t bad enough, the words her son Matt said at a family dinner in 2018 brought her back to life. Little did Melanie know that these words would trigger an outpouring of devotion.

After graduating from university, Matt got a new hairstyle thanks to his hair and decided to raise it with his mother. He offered to give Melanie enough hair to make a wig, which Melanie initially declined. But Matt’s determination paid off and by March 21 he had achieved a whopping 30 centimeters of hair length. With the help of his friends, Matt mustered up the courage to cut his beautiful crop and make his mother a wig. Melanie’s reaction to this touching moment was nothing short of emotional, as tears of joy streamed down her face.

Melanie’s journey to her bound hands was not a smooth one. The hair was shipped to Compassionate Creations in Newport Beach, California, where Veronica Balch, one of the company’s founders, worked diligently to create a beautifully cut and shaped tree. The act of one family shaving the head of another family. Balch did a great job and showed the power of love and compassion.

Melanie finally got a wig in June; A wig that perfectly reflects the love and care his son shows for this unique symbol. After looking in the mirror, Melanie’s husband Matt agreed that the wig looked great on him. Her emotional bowl was filled with so much love and support, for which she will be forever grateful.

This heart-warming labor of love reminds us that love knows no boundaries, and that in times of tragedy, the power of compassion can bring light and healing to dark times.
