Chocolate Chip Spiral Pastries

 

 

 

Ingredients:

– **For the dough:**
– 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1 tsp salt
– 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
– 1/2 cup warm milk
– 1/2 cup warm water
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 2 large eggs

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

– **For the egg wash:**
– 1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp water

Instructions:

1. **Prepare the dough:**
– In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
– Add the warm milk, warm water, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
– Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
– Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

2. **Prepare the filling:**
– In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter and granulated sugar until well combined.

3. **Shape the pastries:**
– Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick).
– Spread the butter and sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
– Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips evenly over the filling.
– Cut the dough into long strips (about 1 inch wide).
– Roll each strip into a spiral and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

4. **Final rise and bake:**
– Cover the spirals with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
– Brush the tops of the spirals with the egg wash.
– Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown.

5. **Cool and serve:**
– Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
